Sometimes—but this question cannot be answered with one universal yes or no.

Different ingredients have different molecular sizes, charges, affinities and chemical properties. Some conditioning materials primarily deposit on the surface. Smaller components may interact with accessible regions deeper within a weathered fiber under appropriate conditions.

Hair condition matters too. A heavily weathered fiber does not present the same surface as virgin hair.

Can a treatment really “seal the cuticle”?

“Sealing the cuticle” is useful beauty shorthand, but it can create the wrong mental picture.

Can damaged hair become virgin hair again?

Not literally.

The visible hair shaft is made of keratinized cells. Unlike living skin, it cannot respond to injury by producing new cells and biologically regenerating the damaged structure.

A rough cuticle and a physically divided hair tip are not the same problem.

Pay attention to the behavior of your hair:
