That variability is crucial. Two products sitting next to each other under the “hair mist” label can have different ingredient lists and leave different materials behind after their more volatile components evaporate.
Wait—does “alcohol” always mean the same thing?
No. Cosmetic ingredient lists contain different types of alcohols with very different properties and functions. Does Alcohol in Hair Perfume Automatically Dry Out Hair?
No. Seeing ethanol on an ingredient list is not enough to predict what a complete fragrance formula will do to hair during normal use.

Think of the process as a sequence rather than a dramatic chemical attack.
Tiny liquid droplets reach the fiber. The liquid contacts and distributes across parts of the surface. More volatile components begin leaving the deposited liquid, while less-volatile fragrance or formulation materials may remain associated with the hair. Exactly what remains—and for how long—is formula-dependent.
What we should not imagine is ethanol arriving and forcing the cuticle scales open like little doors. That popular visual is far too simplistic for what is actually a complex keratinized material.
If the Alcohol Evaporates, Can It Still Affect How Hair Feels?
Potentially—but “feels dry” and “has acquired permanent structural damage” are different conclusions.

Can Repeated Spraying Matter More Than One Occasional Spritz?

Does Previously Bleached or Weathered Hair Change the Equation?
